(click image to enlarge) During the browser wars of the 1990′s you made a choice between Microsoft’s Internet Explorer OR Netscape. Microsoft won out with a 99% marketshare. AOL bought Netscape and well… does anyone even use AOL anymore?? Positive outcome of the browser wars was Netscape developed the Secure Socket Layer know as SSL which almost all eCommerce sites use today and Javascript. Javascript, allowing actions on the web. IE is free with windows, so any competing browser must be free also. Today¬†lots of browser companies have popped up to compete with Microsoft. Depending on the stat, Microsoft Internet Exporer now holds only between 53%-58% of the browser market share. I was about to recommened a browser called ‘Fast Browser’ but I just checked their link and it appears it does not support Windows 7. Also, when I clicked their link just now it goes to an air conditioning site. Too bad! Another one bites the dust. I mention browsers because they may dispay web pages differently or possibly not at all. When I create a site I make sure it’s Cross Browser Complient. The standard industry term to say that the site functions in all browsers. IE is the most problematic BUT you have to code for it because of it’s controlling market share. Some companies tell their clients to NOT use Internet Explorer to view their sight. Thats just cRaZy!! A few years ago a problem popped up, how do things work in cell phones? I’ll bring that up next blog.
